Canvas Chat: Enabling Real-Time Conversations in Courses In-Person
About: This workshop will introduce you to Canvas Chat and share a few ways you can use it to improve communication and conversations in your courses. Canvas Chat is a messaging tool within the Canvas LMS that allows users to interact with one another in real-time. “Chat . . . is available to all students in the course. Chats cannot be limited to specific students. Instructors can use the chat tool to allow students to contact them when online, create virtual office hours, conduct group discussions or study sessions. All users in the course can also access the chat history. Note: Students cannot delete chat comments” (Instructure, 2025, What is Chat? - Instructure Community - 63).
Location: This event will be offered both in-person in the Diane Conference Room as well as via Microsoft Teams video. When you register for online participation you will receive a meeting link 1 day prior to the event.
